Preparatory Program for Medical Studies (Certificate)
The purpose of the Preparatory Program for Medical Studies is to meet the needs of college graduates who have decided to pursue a medical education but who lack some or all of the basic science courses required for admission to medical school. The objective of the program is to provide rigorous education in all areas of premedical sciences that are required for admission to any medical, osteopathic, or veterinary school in the country.
Students sufficiently prepared in mathematics and English who enter the program in the fall semester can expect to complete the program in two years. The third year is known as the “glide year.” This is the year between completing the program and entering medical school. For most students, the glide year provides the opportunity to take additional courses or to deepen their exposure to medicine through full-time employment in a clinical setting or in a medical research laboratory.

Career Opportunities
Graduates of the Preparatory Program for Medical Studies program will be prepared to enter medical, osteopathic, or veterinary school.
Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.00 to remain in the program. In addition, medical schools have high expectations about an applicant’s character. Students in the preparatory program are expected to conduct themselves with honesty and integrity, inspiring confidence in their abilities to assume the responsibilities of medical practice.
Students must hold the degree of bachelor of arts or science from an accredited college or university in the United States or an equivalent degree from an institution outside the U.S. At a minimum, successful applicants must possess a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.00.
In most cases, students will not be eligible for admission if they have applied to medical school previously or have completed their premedical preparation elsewhere within the last five years. This is not a remedial program.
Students must submit a complete application package to the Office of Undergraduate Admission for full consideration.
