Tuition, Fees, and Costs

A Cost of Attendance (COA) is provided to students as a guideline to determine the estimated expenses for an academic year. The list of estimated expenses is not a bill, and actual costs may vary based on expenses charged by the university, such as tuition and fees, housing and food, lab fees, health insurance, etc.

Components

Tuition is the cost to attend courses. Tuition rates vary based on the year the student matriculates at Illinois Institute of Technology. Graduate students enrolled at the Institute of Design and Â鶹APP Kent will have a different tuition rate. 

Fees are charged to all students. The undergraduate estimate includes a Student Service Fee and Activity Fee. The estimate does not include fees charged to some students, such as laboratory fees and university health insurance. Fees for graduate students will vary by program. Be sure to note that all students are required by law to have health insurance coverage through an individual provider or the university. Students can waive university health insurance by submitting proof of adequate insurance coverage to the Student Health and Wellness Center prior to starting courses. 

Housing includes a nine-month estimate for housing costs for those living on and off campus during the academic year. Actual expenses may vary based on housing selection.

Food includes estimated meal plan costs and/or meal expenses. For those living at home, it includes a meal cost estimate of $425/month. Students living at home or off campus are not required to purchase a meal plan.

Books and Supplies include an estimate of materials purchased for a student's coursework. Students may purchase them on . Actual costs may vary depending on course requirements. Students may also request an allowance for a computer purchase as needed to complete their degree requirements.

Transportation Expenses includes estimated travel expenses within Â鶹APP and over university breaks. Students have the option to opt-in to the CTA U-Pass Program (UPass) each semester and the fee is included in this estimate. 

Personal/Miscellaneous Expenses includes an estimate of various expenses a student may incur during the academic year, such as toiletries, etc.

Loan Fees are an estimate of the origination fees assessed by the United States Department of Education for Federal Student Loan borrowers. Loan fees are applied only against the accepted value of a Federal Student Loan that a student receives.
