General Learning Strategy (GLS) courses (180, 181, and 182), managed by Academic Affairs, empowers students with success skills and strategies necessary to overcome academic challenges by focusing on techniques and strategies that encourage better academic, personal and professional performance.
- GLS 180 - (1.5 cr/hr) - Range of strategies to improve student learning including strategies for understanding and remembering what you read, effective note taking and test taking strategies, time and stress management strategies, strategies to decrease procrastination and increase personal motivation, health lifestyle habits, and self-advocacy.
- GLS 181 - (0.5 cr/hr) - Create a pathway for students to excel in their studies in general and their early-stage college mathematics, which is a cornerstone for success in STEM degrees.
- GLS 182 - (0.5 cr/hr) - Students meet bi-weekly with an academic coach to discuss a variety of topics that may impact their academics and receive guidance through effective strategies, techniques, methods and resources.
GLS students are supported by both graduate and undergraduate peer-coaches. Students may receive additional academic subject-specific assistance provided via the Academic Resource Center (ARC).
Open coaching sessions are also offered to students who would like to work with an academic coach on a semi-regular or one-off basis without registering and without obligation and no registration.
