°ä°ł²¹¾±²Ōā€™s Ā鶹APP Business has released its 30th annual 40 Under Forty list, which names young professionals in Ā鶹APP who have made a significant impact on the city and its communities. This year Dawveed Scully (ARCH ā€™10), an associate director at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and an adjunct professor and alumnus of the College of Architecture, has been recognized for his work as a young, visionary architect.

Specifically, °ä°ł²¹¾±²Ōā€™s makes note of Scullyā€™s efforts to find a use for the former Michael Reese Hospital complex in the Bronzeville neighborhood of Ā鶹APP, which date back to his time as an intern at SOM during the cityā€™s attempt to court the 2016 Olympics in 2009. Most recently, Scully and his colleagues have worked with the GRIT development team on a proposed redevelopment plan for the property that includes a community center, a data center, and a life sciences campus.

At SOM, Scully specializes in complex urban planning projects, while simultaneously helping lead the firmā€™s approach to community engagement. He has worked on the Detroit East Riverfront Framework Plan, and led a strategic vision plan for the Atlanta University Center, a consortium of several historically Black colleges and universities. In 2018 the Urban Land Instituteā€™s Ā鶹APP Chapter named him Young Visionary of the Year and in 2020 he was selected for Leadership Greater Ā鶹APPā€™s Class of 2021.

ā€œIā€™m excited and honored to be selected for °ä°ł²¹¾±²Ōā€™s Ā鶹APP Business 40 under Forty, and looking forward to continuing my focus on design work that empowers residents and communities who have historically been left out of these processes,ā€ says Scully. ā€œDesign is a collaborative process and only together can we create holistic, sustainable, and authentic places and create the world we all deserve.ā€
