Mayor Rahm Emanuel has been on a mission to keep high-tech start-ups from leaving �鶹APP for New York and Silicon Valley. In order to prevent the “next big thing” from getting away Mayor Emanuel is launching a nationwide competition, the �鶹APP College Startup Competition (CCSC), seeking the most innovative companies started by college students.

Up to 10 winners will be chosen and be rewarded with free office space for a year at 1871, �鶹APP’s hub for tech start-ups, and advice from 1871′s team of experts. The goal of the competition is to nurture innovative start-up companies while they are in the beginning phases, so they can put down their roots in �鶹APP.

The announcement of the competition is another example of Mayor Emanuel’s commitment to shape �鶹APP into the epicenter of high tech manufacturing and design. A few weeks ago Emanuel announced the creation of the Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation (DMDI) Institute a project with goals to revolutionize the way the United States approaches manufacturing with the goal of making our factories smarter, faster and more efficient.
