Welcome from the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students
Dear Students,
Illinois Institute of Technology was founded on the premise that every person, of any background, could be educated here and find meaningful roles in society. Even 130-plus years later, we continue to take pride in our campus, curriculum, and vibrant student life in and out of the classroom.
Our strategic plan has prioritized student success as the most important initiative. We know that being supported by and connected to the Illinois Tech community is key to finding the level of success needed to find meaningful roles in society today. Illinois Tech is a place where excellence meets innovation and students have many opportunities to discover their talents, create a pathway for their success, and solve for the world’s most difficult problems.
The Student Affairs team members are your advocates to assist you with any needs inside and outside of the classroom. We look forward to meeting you. Please feel free to contact us with any questions, comments, needs, or concerns at dos@iit.edu.
Sincerely,
Katherine Stetz
Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students
Anyone—student, staff member, faculty member, or a non-Illinois Tech-affiliated individual—may initiate a complaint under the code of conduct against an admitted or enrolled student for misconduct. Complaints must be in writing and can be filed online.
Though individuals are encouraged to come forward and report complaints, reports may also be made anonymously by contacting the Public Safety department at 312.808.6300 or by filing a report online. All complaints will be reviewed by the Office of Student Affairs; however, Illinois Tech’s ability to investigate and to address anonymously reported complaints is significantly limited, which may inhibit Illinois Tech’s ability to pursue disciplinary proceedings against potential or alleged responsible parties. While filling out a report, please note that the more information that can be provided, the more thorough the investigation will likely be.
All complaints will be processed through the Office of Student Affairs. This office will review and investigate, as it deems appropriate, the complaints to determine if the gathered evidence provides a reasonable basis upon which a determination that a violation of this code of conduct may have occurred could be made (i.e., merit) and, if so, to determine the appropriate course of action.
More information about filing a complaint and the judicial process can be found in the Illinois Tech Student Handbook.
Anyone who may have a concern about a student’s well-being may also complete an incident report form online. If the concern is emergent in nature, the Department of Public Safety should be notified immediately at 312.808.6363.

Incidents of bias, bigotry, discrimination, or other hate related behavior based on gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, immigration status, or religion will not tolerated. Therefore, students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to submit any bias or hate related incidents that they observe or experience at Illinois Tech. The Bias Reporting form can be submitted .
The Office of the Vice Provost of Student Affairs will review and take appropriate action on any such reports. Anonymous reports are accepted, however, anonymous reporting does make it more difficult to proceed with an investigation without a named reporter to follow up with. If you have any questions about the reporting and/or investigative process please contact dos@iit.edu.
