Consistent with the spirit of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Illinois Institute of Technology determines reasonable accommodations through a deliberative process involving disability services professionals, appropriate members of the university community, and, of course, the individuals with disabilities themselves.
Because there is the possibility of disagreement about the appropriateness of reasonable accommodations in any deliberative process, in the interest of fairness, equity, and due process, Illinois Tech has established both an informal mechanism and formal procedure to address grievances and complaints regarding reasonable accommodations.
The university encourages students with disabilities to work with the CDR to informally address difficulties or grievances regarding reasonable accommodations that may arise. In the event that such difficulties cannot be resolved informally, students may avail themselves of the university's formal grievance process by contacting the compliance officers for disability discrimination at the Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action office: 312.567.3353.
For more specific information on the grievance process, consult the student handbook.
