In recognition of its mission statement, the ACS IIT Student Chapter hosts approximately monthly events responding to the professional and social needs of the Illinois Tech chemistry student body. Informational events educate chemistry students and those studying related fields about available career resources and recent happenings in the chemistry world. Social events foster connections among students and encourage a widespread love of chemistry. Through frequent email and social media communication with its members, the ACS IIT Student Chapter informs its members of upcoming events and allows ample opportunity for event suggestions, questions, and criticisms.

Meet the Executive Board!
Maya Bajorek
President
Year: 4th year
Major: Medicinal Chemistry
Favorite thing about Chemistry: Iām always fascinated about how pretty much everything is somehow related to chemistry. From the reasons why different compounds emit different colors, to creating computer chips, to the synthesis and applications of medications, to the very materials of the chairs youāre all sitting on, chemistry is all around us!
Megan Harmon
Vice President
Year: 3rd year
Major: Environmental Chemistry
Favorite thing about Chemistry: My favorite thing about chemistry is learning about the chemical mechanisms behind the phenomena we see in the world. Some of my favorites are how the āholeā in the ozone layer formed, how photochemical smog forms, and how carbon dioxide in the atmosphere can lead to ocean acidification.
Adriana Zayia
Secretary
Year: 2nd year
Major: Chemistry
Favorite thing about Chemistry: My favorite aspect of chemistry is that it forms the basis of a balanced lifestyle, from our diet to our personal care products. A basic understanding of chemistry can help improve our lives through knowing how to reduce fatigue, optimize nutrition, etc.
Smrithi Sreedhar
Treasurer
Year: 2nd year
Major: Medicinal Chemistry
Favorite thing about Chemistry: My favorite thing about chemistry is applying the theory and mechanisms to understand the chemical makeup of structures specifically related to pharmaceutical drugs.
Emily Reyes
Event Coordinator
Year: 2nd year
Major: Environmental Chemistry
Favorite thing about Chemistry: My favorite thing about chemistry is how fundamental it is. As I look forward to entering the field of environmental science after graduating from Illinois Tech, I appreciate how chemistry can explain a wide range of phenomena. This includes explaining the pH levels in water to greenhouse gasses and air pollutants.
Jaqueline Trejo
Social Media and Recruitment
Year: 2nd year
Major: Chemistry
Favorite thing about Chemistry: My favorite thing about chemistry is that it is like baking - you follow a procedure, try new and different methods, and molecular level chemical reactions occur to receive a desired outcome!
