Student Resources

Lewis College of Science and Letters offers a variety of resources and opportunities to students both within the Lewis College community and across the university:

  • The Department of Psychology is home to the M. A. and Lila Self Leadership Academy, a leadership-development program for all undergraduate students at Illinois Tech 
  • The Department of Humanities houses the Writing Center—a student resource providing one-on-one tutoring sessions for undergraduate and graduate students—and also hosts the university’s annual undergraduate writing contest
  • Study away programs open to students across the university are offered each summer by faculty in the Department of Humanities and the Department of Social Sciences

Leadership Academy

Founded in 2000, the M. A. and Lila Self Leadership Academy at Illinois Tech is an undergraduate education initiative that trains students to be capable leaders and empowers them to inspire the same in others.

Lewis College study abroad students in Japan

Study Away Programs

Lewis College faculty lead summer study away programs that are open to undergraduate students from across the university. In recent years, groups have traveled to Japan and Scotland.

Annual Writing Contest

The annual writing contest hosted by the Department of Humanities is a university tradition dating back more than 50 years. Undergraduates from across campus are invited to submit works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and freshman essays.

Writing Center

The Writing Center was established in 1971 as a student resource that provides one-on-one tutoring sessions for undergraduate and graduate students. Staff are available for appointments during the fall and spring semesters.
