Abhinav Bhushan (Assistant Professor, Biomedical Engineering): Study of inflammation and metabolic diseases through novel microfluidics and microfabrication that are used to engineer tissues as well as to develop sensors for chemical and biochemical measurements, and to ultimately translate the discoveries from bench-to-the-bedside to improve health outcomes.

(Associate Professor, School of Biochemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (BHU)): highly interdisciplinary research spanning a wide range in biotechnology, biosensing devices, material engineering, and translational healthcare technologies. He has designed patented, commercially viable sensing technologies that can be operated for onsite analysis in biomedical diagnostics and environmental monitoring. 

Chen Chen (Tech Lead of Product Development, Intel Corporation): Special interest in overall manufacturing strategy, execution, and manufacturing standardization. Expertise in product definition, post-silicon manufacturing development, and first silicon execution/debug; taking complex products to Product Requirement Qualified and into High Volume Manufacture. Tasks focusing on manufacturing development and execution for products in Intel’s client portfolio.

(Principal Systems Engineer, Advanced Development Group, Zebra Technologies Corporation): Currently develops thermal printer technology with special expertise in quantitative print analysis. Prior industrial R&D experience includes development and design of robotic biofluid dispensing systems, industrial ink jet printing systems, direct laser marking equipment and electrophotographic developers.

Basman Dahleh (CTO, UICO LLC): 30 years of research and product development experience with various standard and custom communication systems and devices, public safety systems, wearables for industrial applications, device software applications and integrated enterprise software applications for industrial markets, and more recently touch sensor technology. Research interest in sensor technology in various scientific circles that can be cross-utilized to create accurate and robust touch sensors.

Gretchen Gutierrez (Technical Director, Northland Laboratories): Analysis of foods and beverages and their ingredients for nutritional components, contaminants, microbial safety and quality; shelf life studies; validation studies; method development; regulatory for the food industry.

John-Bruce D. Green (Senior Scientist, Baxter Healthcare Corporation): Creation and characterization of nanoscale architectures and the development of specialized instrumentation geared toward these functions; development of hybrid and high-throughput techniques which pushed force measurements with atomic force microscopy to more rapid and parallel formats; development of single molecule devices with electrical, mechanical and/or biological function (e.g., testing the capabilities of viral mapping of cells); kinetics of complex phenomena such as protein aggregation, emulsion destabilization and crystal nucleation and growth, among others.

(The President and Principal Scientist of Poly Crystallography, Inc.; Research Professor of Chemistry): Characterization of the atomic and microstructure of materials using powder and single crystal diffraction techniques, as well as by quantum chemical techniques.

Ishaque Khan (Professor, Chemistry): Design, synthesis and properties of advanced materials including nanostructured materials for applications in chemical sensing, energy storage, biomedical usage, and heterogeneous catalysis.

Cuza University, Romania): Molecular characterization and manipulation (e.g., nano-tweezing) of analytes electro-diffusion across nano-channels; use of protein nanopores to assess physical properties of single peptides and small proteins with the ultimate goal of achieving primary structure readout of elongated proteins; understanding the action mechanism of lipid membrane-active peptides (e.g., antimicrobials, amyloidic peptides) to reveal novel membrane-related modulatory pathways of such peptides activity in biomimetic structures.

Yuanbing Mao (Professor and Department Chair of Chemistry): Development of luminescent inorganic nanoparticles for contactless thermometry, biomedical monitoring and diagnosis, decontamination of bacterial and viral infections, and destruction of environmental pollutants.

Mathew T. Mathew (Cedric W. Blazer Endowed Associate Professor of Biomedical Sciences, University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford; joint appointment at UIC College of Dentistry): Simulation of human artificial joints, biomechanics and tribocorrosion of implanted biomaterials used in dentistry and orthopedics; sensor development for metal ion detection for orthopedic and dental implant patients, and cancer diagnosis from Urine.

David Minh (Associate Professor, Chemistry): Computational prediction of binding affinities between analytes and macromolecular receptors; data analysis methods.

(Senior Chemist, Dep. Group Leader, Center for Nanoscale Materials, Argonne National Lab): Micro- and nano-fabrication expertise with 30+ years experiences in developing high resolution, high aspect ratio lithographic processes; development of etching and growth processes for advanced micro- and nano-devices; synthesis of nanoparticles and their use in micro-nanodevices; characterization of interfacial and compatibility properties of materials used in MEMS and NEMS, and development of membrane-based devices.

(Manager, Analytical Chemistry Division, Illinois Institute of Technology Research Institute): 20+ years experience leading various Analytical and Process development teams in CDMO, CRO, Pharmaceuticals and Diagnostic industries; core expertise including molecular spectroscopy, bio and immune assays and chromatography for testing small therapeutic molecules, bio-organics, recombinant proteins, polyclonal, peptides, and amorphous materials; a deep understanding of analytical test method development, tech transfer requirements, method validation, quality control, requirements for regulatory submissions, and program management in GLP and cGMP environments.

Hongjun Zeng (Lead Scientist of Product Development, Advanced Diamond Technologies, Inc.): Novel thin-film diamond products including doped micro-, nano- and ultrananocrystalline diamond, super thin diamond coating, low temp diamond deposition, and film engineering. These new diamond technologies are used in several industrial and academic applications of MEMS/Nano devices, nanofabrication, electrochemistry (water/treatment and biosensing), as well as biocompatible surface engineering and components.
