Led by Ruth Schmidt, Full-time Associate Professor, and staffed by a small team of ID Masters students, the Institute of Design started a project called remoteID in mid-March of 2020 to harness lessons from the school's unexpected shift to online learning. The project, which continued into the summer, used a design approach to develop principles and practices for remote design education and studio culture to support a design "community of practice," focusing less on technology as a platform than wrangling how tech might support various use cases as a means to create consistency and increase safety.
